7 Nights 8 Days Rajasthan Itinerary: Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer & Udaipur on a Budget

If you're trying to see the real Rajasthan — not just one city, but the full circuit of forts, deserts, and lakes — 7 nights 8 days is the sweet spot. It's long enough to cover Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Udaipur without rushing, and short enough to fit into a single week off work.



Here's a realistic, budget-friendly itinerary for exactly that route, plus what it typically costs and a few things we've learned from planning this trip for hundreds of travellers.



 



Day-by-Day Itinerary



Day 1–2: Jaipur

Land in Jaipur and spend your first two days covering the Pink City — Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, and Jantar Mantar. Leave your second evening free for Johari Bazaar if you want to shop for jewellery or block-printed textiles.



Day 3: Jodhpur

A morning drive or train gets you into Jodhpur by afternoon. Spend the rest of the day at Mehrangarh Fort — the views over the Blue City alone are worth the trip.



Day 4–5: Jaisalmer

This is where the desert really kicks in. Day 4 is for Jaisalmer Fort and the old havelis in town. On Day 5, head out to the Sam Sand Dunes for a camel safari and, if your package includes it, an overnight desert camp under the stars.



Day 6–7: Udaipur

The drive from Jaisalmer to Udaipur is long, so Day 6 is mostly travel with a late-afternoon arrival. Day 7 is for the City Palace, a boat ride on Lake Pichola, and watching the sunset from one of the rooftop cafés overlooking the lake.



Day 8: Departure

A relaxed morning before your onward journey home.

Tips for This Route




  • Best time to go: October to March. Summers in the desert region (Jaisalmer especially) are very harsh.

  • Book the desert camp in advance if you're travelling in peak season (December–January) — the good camps fill up fast.

  • Carry cash for smaller towns — card acceptance drops noticeably once you're outside Jaipur and Udaipur.

  • Pace yourself on Day 6 — the Jaisalmer-to-Udaipur drive is the longest of the trip; don't plan sightseeing on that day.
