Not everyone has a week to spare for Rajasthan, and that's fine — Jaipur alone, done well, makes for a great short trip. Here's how to make the most of it.

Arrive by late morning and check in. Spend the afternoon in the walled Old City — Hawa Mahal (best photographed from across the street in the morning light), City Palace, and Jantar Mantar are all within walking distance of each other. In the evening, head to Johari Bazaar or Bapu Bazaar for your first taste of Jaipur's markets — block prints, jootis, and jewellery are the local specialities.
Dedicate the morning to Amber Fort, about 20 minutes outside the city. Go early — by 9 AM the tour buses arrive and it gets crowded fast. In the afternoon, rest or explore Jal Mahal (viewed from the lakeside, it's not open for entry but worth a photo stop). End the day at Nahargarh Fort for sunset — the view over the entire city from up there is one of the best in Jaipur.

Use your last morning for whatever you missed — Albert Hall Museum, a cooking class, or simply a slow breakfast at a rooftop café before checkout. If your flight or train is in the evening, Chokhi Dhani (a Rajasthani village-themed resort just outside the city) is a good half-day option for food and culture before you leave.
